I officially rescue strictly birds, however, I think I may have an abandoned animal magnet. I have rescued a lot of different, non-bird animals over the years and sometimes they end up staying with me, and sometimes I adopt them out to their forever homes. Below I have included some of my other rescues that I have done.

Hawk Rescue

I rescued this Hawk after being contacted by a local Police Department. They told me they had a Hawk that was injured and his only choice was to put it down. The officer didn't want to put him down so they called me to come get him. He was attacked by something and needed emergency medical attention. I wrapped him in a towel and put him in a carrier and transported him to a local Veterinary Hospital that takes in wildlife. They will take him and do what they can for him to save his life. He had some puncture wounds but they did not look life threatening, hopefully they will be able to release him back into the wild.

                                                      Canadian Goose

I do not generally take in wild life but I get a lot of calls about geese. All of them have been emergencies where they needed urgent medical care. I was called out on many occasions to rescue geese and take them to get the medical treatment necessary. This particular goose had been hit by a car and severely injured. His right wing and left leg were severely damaged and most definitely broken. I was called to come get him. He had taken refuge on a golf course amongst other geese. He was so injured he didn’t make a big attempt to get away from me when I went to pick him up. I wrapped him in a towel to keep him as comfortable as possible and his stress level low. I took him to a local Veterinary Hospital that treats injured wildlife. This poor goose was so severely injured that he had to be humanely euthanized.

Disaster (Dizzy)

This is Dizzy, I rescued him while working as a vet assistant at a local rescue who will remain unnamed. A man brought in a 12 week old puppy and wanted to have him euthanized. When I asked why he wanted the pup euthanized he said he didn't want the rescue to have him and he could no longer keep him. So I agreed to take the puppy home to find him a home. I ended up falling in love with him as I had just lost my dog a few months prior. The vet said he was a Lab mix then as he grew older, he was guessed to be a Lab/Great Dane/German Shepherd Mix. He is now in training for search and rescue and he is a wonderful dog.

Bear

This is Bear, he was dumped off at the intersection down the street from our house. He was running around our neighborhood for close to 2 months. I had been taking food and water down to the area he slept. There were several people trying to catch him to get him off the street. I finally captured him and brought him home. He was approx. 6-8 months old. I was going to find a home for him but he ended up needing an emergency surgery that cost close to $400. Bear is a Therapy Dog and loves to travel to hospitals to visit the patients.

Piglet

This is Piglet, he was dropped off at my door in the middle of the night. He was a few months old, very skittish and was obviously abused. He was guessed to be a Rottweiler/Collie/Corgi mix. Piglet was adopted out to a wonderful family in Warren, Ohio. They love him very much and have since renamed him Axel.

Ceasar

This poor pup was running along a very busy road and was almost hit numerous times. He had an injury to his paw and was very skittish. I laid on the ground in someones near by yard and the pup came over to see what I was doing. I grabbed him and wrestled him to my car. I asked some near by residents and they said he was dropped off earlier that morning. I made a few calls and it turns out that the friend of mine who I adopted the Rottweiler mix out to had friends looking for a Pit Bull of that exact color markings. He was so friendly and already trained, his new family LOVES him!!

White German Shepherd

This White German Shepherd was running around a local lake where we were celebrating my mother’s birthday. He was very skittish and was just playing and playing in the water. I coaxed him out of the water with some chicken and grabbed a hold of his choker chain to see if I could find any kind of identification. Some people nearby said that he had been running around the lake all morning and my now it was late in the evening. Another family said they had been there all day and someone kicked him out of a car on the highway, a few hundred feet from the lake. Upon examining his collar I noticed that it was starting to embed into his skin. He was having trouble breathing and the collar would not slip over his head. I took him to the police station which was within walking distance of where I found him. They had to cut his collar off with bolt cutters. I then took him home and cleaned the laceration caused by the collar with peroxide and triple antibiotic cream. I gave him some anti biotic to be on the safe side and he was adopted out to a wonderful family who previously had a white German Shepherd.

Fluffy

This is Fluffy, my best friend’s cat. He had a very infected wound in his neck. They were uncertain of how he got the wound since he is an indoor cat, however, it needed to be taken care of right away. At the time she did not have the money to take him to the vet so she called me to take a look at it. I cleaned it out with peroxide and put some triple antibiotic cream with pain reliever on it. I bandaged it up so he would not scratch at it. I came back every day for about 3-4 days to change his bandages and after a week the infection was completely gone and the wound almost completely healed!

Milo

This is Milo. I found him at a yard sale where he was chained up to a pole like a dog. It was in the middle of the summer, he had no food or water. I asked about him and the family didn’t want him anymore, they were allergic to him so they chained him outside!!!! The chain was about 2 feet long, it was awful. I offered to take him and they made me pay for him!!! I didn’t care; I had to get him out of there. I took him home and he was very skinny. He had worms and diarrhea. I treated him for both and once he gained some weight I adopted him out to an elderly woman who is friends with my neighbor. He was such a friendly cat. I love all animals and I cannot pass up and animals that needs help. He will never be in that kind of condition again!

Kitten

This little guy was feisty! My very large male cat brought this kitten in. I pulled into the drive way one day and he had this little guy in his mouth!!! I jumped out of my car which made my cat drop him and they both ran into my garage. He was lost in there I tried to coax him out but I suspected he was partially feral. I set out a human trap with some food it and caught him within a day. He was extremely skinny and attacked me several times for what seemed like no reason. He was very nervous; he would sit just fine and allow you to pet him then minutes later turn around and latch onto your hand. I was afraid that he was feral where as he would be very hard to find a home. He was approx. 5 weeks old which I was thankful that I caught him at such a young age. He was extremely emaciated, and I kept him for about 3-4 weeks bringing his weigh up and socializing him. After that time he was very handle able and would sleep with me every night. I found a family with two kids that were looking for a kitten to add to the family. They came over to meet him and just fell in love with him!! I was so happy that he found a wonderful forever home.

The Kittens

These two kittens I found at a local State Park. They were very small and way too young to be on their own. The one on the left is a female and the other a male. They are very attached to each other and could not be separated. So I made sure they were adopted together. They were so loveable and affectionate.

I ending up having a weakness for the little boy, Thomas in the right picture.

Clifford

Clifford was rescued by me out of a dumpster along with his 5 other brothers and sisters at 2 weeks of age. I had to bottle feed all of them, and Clifford's condition was the worst. He was unconscious and going into seizures. He was severely dehydrated. I called my vet and since I was experienced with the type of treatment he needed he gave me detailed instructions to hopefully save his life. The vet thought he would not survive the night. In the picture you can see his hospital cage I had set up which included a 10 gallon aquarium, a heating blanket, and lots of towels. I injected him with water every 30 minutes Sub-Q, to keep him hydrated. I mixed canned cat food with water, human chicken baby food along with Pedialyte and had to force feed him through a syringe. He is now doing wonderful!!!! He did make it through the night and has been doing great. He is now 10 weeks old and only the size of a 5 week old kitten. When he was 7 weeks I took him to the vet and he weighed .10 lbs. A 7 week old kitten is supposed to weigh close to 2 lbs. Clifford is still tiny but cute as a button!!!!
