In order to adopt any bird from us you must complete our adoption form and be approved, before you can adopt.

Please read our "Adoption Policies" page.
Please check our "Bird Experience" page to see what birds you could be appoved to adopt.
This page was created so you can see how loud a parrot can be in your home.
By completing an adoption application it does NOT mean you will be approved to adopt.
You can print this application out and mail it to us or fill it out and email it .

We do not adopt out on a first come, first serve basis.  We match up birds with applicants.

Due to the amount of calls I am getting each day; please do not call to ask if we have a certain species up for adoption but not listed. Please read the adoption page BEFORE you call, most questions that people have are answered on the adoption process page and birds up for adoption page. All of the birds that are available for adoption or are going to be available will be listed on the adoption page. If we do not have a species that you are looking for at that time, fill out an application and you will be put on a waiting list for that species.

Adoption Application

After your application has been approved, and you find the right bird for you, you will need to complete an adoption contract which will insure our birds get their forever home and "Happy Ending"

George

Species: Blue and Gold Macaw
Age: 10 years
Aggression: Yearly hormonal aggression during breeding season.
Children: Small children not advised
Noise Level: Average Macaw noise levels.

George has had a good life, was not abused his family was just not in a position to keep him. He has started a yearly hormonal aggression where during the months of breeding season he will become very aggressive. His new adoptive family will need to understand that during this time he may not want to be handled and may become aggressive.

Lucky

Species: Blue and Gold Macaw
Age: Unknown
Aggression: Doesn't like women and seems to have fear aggression.
Children: Small children not advised
Noise Level: LOUD, loves to scream!

Lucky came to us because his owner was ill and could no longer care for him. He did have a very overgrown beak and nails and we trimmed them whem he came. He LOVES to scream, and say "Cracker!". His feathers and tail are in poor condition from a poor diet. He is now on a great diet and we will soon see his feathers improve. He doesn't like women and will not hesitate to bite. He seems to be fear aggressive in his new environment. We are working with him on some trust issues. His potential adopter needs to be experienced.
Teddy

Species: Blue Front Amazon
Age: 20 years
Aggression: Not aggressive, typial amazon temperament.
Children: Small children not advised.
Noise Level: Average Amazon noise levels.

Teddy is very talkative and very sweet once he gets to know you and trusts you. Teddy has been around children but I would not recommend that a child handles him, like most Amazons, Teddy is temperamental.

Archie

Species: Severe Macaw
Age: 23 years
Aggression: Very cage aggressive.
Children: Small children not advised.
Noise Level: Average Severe Macaw noise levels.

Archie is cage aggressive, but once out of his cage he is a great bird. Must go to someone experienced, he is not for a first time bird owner. Archie loves women does and NOT like men.

Heckle

Carly is a 14 yr old sexed female. Goes to men & women but LOVES men. Aggressive towards kids. Does get hormonal several times a year and has laid eggs twice a year. Slightly plucks her legs when she is hormonal. This is better if she has toys to destroy instead. LOVES any kind of people food and loves to eat with you. Wood toys are her favorite thing to shred. Doesn't mind traveling and going places. Has done educational shows. Minimally talks. Says "hi & pretty bird". Can be loud when you are eating. Otherwise quiet for a cockatoo

Sveety came to us because he was too much for his previous owner. They rescued him from a home where he was obviously stressed, he needs a quieter house to live in. His feather damage on his chest is permanent, we are ordering him a little vest so he is not so naked! He is very sweet outside of his cage.
Lucy

Age: Unknown
Aggression: Very flighty, will need to be in an aviary type setting.
Children: Children ok
Noise Level: Quiet
 Approptiate cage size:
32"x21" Flight Cage
Lucy came with another bird, their owner passed away. She does have 2 leg bands, one on each foot. She really needs to be in an aviary setting. She is very flighty and I don't think she was ever socialized. She is very pretty and makes a very pleasant chirp.

These two came from New Jersey as they are Illegal in that state. They are a bit cage aggressive but wonderful out of the cage. They were previous breeders from New York, however their temperament is great. They are a chatty little pair of Quakers and as they are a pair they must stay together.

Adoption Pending

Species: Severe Macaw
Age: Unknown
Aggression: Cody has come a long way but still needs a lot of work to be handled. Will bite, and still aggressive.
Children: Does NOT like children!
Noise Level: Loud!.
Approptiate cage size:

Cody was adopted into a wonderful home who did a lot of rehabilitation with him. He has come a LONG way from when we first got him, he suffered from trauma from him previous abuse. Cody is doing much better but his adopter was unable to keep him due to some personal matters, so Cody came back with us where he is always welcome. He is now on the search for a new forever home who can spend the same time and give him the same love.
Cody still has a lot of fear aggression. He has been with us almost two years and he is happier in his cage with is toys and being spoiled. He is not interested in being handled or touched and he does fear hands due to his past abuse. Cody needs an adopter that will only expect from him what he chooses to give. If he doesn't ever want to be handled then he shouldn't be forced to. Cody will only be considered for adoption to someone with a lot of experience, patience and time for him. Someone that is happy for Cody if he is happy to stay in his cage. Cody loves to be talked to and given treats through the bars however he does fear hands, dowels or anything coming at him.

Cricket

Species: Nanday/St. Thomas Conure Hybrid (Cricket)
Age: 25-26 years old
Aggression: Cricket is cage aggressive, due to deformed feet he doesn't step up.
Children: Not Advised
Noise Level: Loud

Cricket was bred by previous owner as a show bird and due to her deformed feet they were going to euthanize her. She gets around fine however. She did not come with a cage so adopter must provide cage. Cricket came very aggressive however she is doing better, she LOVES to destroy the newspaper in her cage and play under it! She lunges through the bars but does not try to bite when feeding her. She needs an adopter that would like to sit and talk to her as well as provide a retirement home for them.

Monkey

Species: Mitred Conure
Age: Unknown
Aggression: Will bite out of fear.
Children: Not advised
Noise Level: Very loud.

This poor baby will bite out of fear. He is starved for attention. His age is unknown as he was a Humane Society confiscation from an abusive environment. As you can see Monkey has plucked previously, he also does not have a tail. Once you gain his trust he LOVES his head rubbed, he will rub his head on your hand if you don't pet him. He is going to be a sweet bird. We got the name "Monkey" as he says what sounds like, "Monkey want a cracker?" It is hard to tell exactly what he is saying. Monkey is a one person bird and he LOVES men! He will make an excellent companion for someone.

Colonel

Species: Blue Front Amazon
Age: 30+ years old
Aggression: Not aggressive very unsure and unsteady due to arthritis in feet.
Children: Ok
Noise Level: VERY loud.
Approptiate cage size:
32"x23" Cage minimum
Colonel had a rough life and has been passed around from home to home. He is not aggressive and he loves to talk and interact with someone though the cage bars. He is bird aggressive so he can't be near other birds in another home. He is being fostered with other birds in the home and does well away from them. He would rather run from you than go after you. He did not come with a cage so adopter will need to provide one. Colonel does not lunge. He would make a great bird for someone who would like company and someone to talk to. It will take time for him to gain trust.

Ennie, Meenie
Species: Peach faced Lovebirds
Age:  Unknown
 Aggression: Skittish, not hand tame.
Children: Children would not be able to handle.
Noise Level: Average lovebird noise level.
These 2 are clutch mates that have never been separated. They have had a rough life and have been previously abused. One of the siblings is handicapped although she gets around great. These little guys need a home where they can be loved dispite their disabilities!

Due to the amount of Emergency Surrenders without supplies, cages or vet work; Adoption fees needed to be raised to help cover some of those costs. Donations are always appreciated to help keep fees low. The fluctuation in fees depends on if birds come with or without supplies. However, many birds are surrendered without cages, or inappropriate cages and we must provide one. YOU need to be responsible for providing a cage for the bird you would like to adopt, unless you are otherwise informed. Some additional fees may be added for additional expenses such as emergency vet care, cages and supplies.

The Bird Nerds reserves the right to refuse adoption to anyone that we don't find suitable for a particular bird. We ask that you don't take it personally. Our MAIN concern is our birds health, welfare and happiness.   We always try to let our birds pick their people instead of the other way around.  If the bird you want to adopt doesn't seem to connect with you, we won't adopt him/her out.

Adoption Fees

Adoption fees vary based on the medical attention they need and the amount of time they spend with us at the rescue. Also the amount of time we need to rehabilitate them.

We do not vet finches, canaries, lovebirds, parakeets, or cockatiels, unless they come to us from unsuitable living conditions. If the animal is sick, then the animal will be vetted and all necessary measures will be taken to improve the life of the animal.
